A patio lasts as long as the base under it. We dig 8 to 10 inches, lay compacted dense-graded aggregate in layers, and set pavers on a screeded bed with polymeric sand in the joints. Walls get a drainage stone backfill and a perforated pipe at the footing.
Paver patios start at $28 per square foot installed, so a 300 square foot patio runs about $8,400 to $11,000 depending on the paver and the access. Bluestone and natural stone run $42 to $60 per square foot. We use Techo-Bloc, Unilock and local bluestone.

How long does a patio take to build?
A 300 to 500 square foot patio usually takes four to seven working days, weather allowing. Walls and steps add a few days.
Do I need a permit?
Some towns require one for walls over 3 feet or for any new impervious surface. We check with your town and file it if needed.
